SUMMARY: This item was discussed by the Water Supply Planning Committee at its February 2, 2010 meeting. It is recognized that in order to make any modifications to Los Padres Dam or Los Padres Reservoir, permission from California American Water (CAW), the dam’s owner, is needed. In responding to a District request, CAW General Manager Craig Anthony stated in an October 5, 2009 letter as follows: “[c]urrently, CAW has no interest in increasing the dam height or making other Los Padres Reservoir modifications.” Unless and until this response changes, it appears there is no avenue for the District to pursue toward increasing the capacity of Los Padres Reservoir.
