A Resolution of
the Board of Directors
of the Monterey
Peninsula Water Management District
Suspending
Receipt of Lawn Removal Rebate Applications
until
Rebate Program Funding is Renewed and
Program
Guidelines Have Been Revised
WHEREAS, Rebates for removal of established Lawn
and replacement with low water use plants or permeable surfaces was added to
the Rebate Program on January 1, 2010; and
WHEREAS, the Lawn removal Rebate has
been successful in removing almost three acres of irrigated Lawn in the
Monterey Peninsula Water Management District, which will result in water
savings of approximately 4 acre-feet per year for a minimum of 15 years; and
WHEREAS, funding for the Rebate Program
approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in the Monterey
Conservation Budget was expended as of January 7, 2011; and
WHEREAS, California American Water has
filed an Advice Letter with the CPUC for an additional $250,000 in Rebate funds
as addressed in the Monterey Conservation Budget; and
WHEREAS, MWPMD Rule 141-B states that Rebates
shall be issued by the District on a first-come, first-served basis as long as
funds remain available. In the event that funds are expended, applications shall
be filed in the order received. If all eligibility criteria has been met and
additional funding is made available, Rebates shall be first funded for
applications on file pending Rebate, with all subsequent applications taken in
a first-come, first-served order as long as funding remains available; and
WHEREAS, eligibility criteria for Lawn
Rebates has been identified as needing review and revised guidelines; and
WHEREAS, this review and revision of
guidelines is anticipated to occur before supplemental Rebate program funding
becomes available.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND
ORDERED THAT THE Monterey
Peninsula Water Management District hereby suspends the receipt and processing
of Lawn removal Rebate applications pending the approval of revised program
guidelines by the General Manager and the renewed availability of Rebate funds.
