Committee Recommendation:  The Chair and Vice Chair reviewed the item on August 20, 2009 and proposed approval of their recommended list of ACWA officers and board members.

SUMMARY:  The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), Region 5 is conducting an election for 2010-2011 ACWA Region 5 officers and board members.  ACWA submitted a ballot to its members (Exhibit 10-A) and requested that the completed ballot be returned before September 30, 2009.   The ballot includes a recommended slate developed by the Region 5 Nominating Committee, and also a complete list of candidates so that agencies can cast votes for individual candidates.   The Chair and Vice Chair met on August 20, 2009 and decided against adopting the recommended slate.  Instead, they chose to select candidates from the complete list of nominees.  The candidates recommended for election by the Chair and Vice Chair are marked with asterisks on Exhibit 10-A, and include Director Lehman.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  Review the list of nominees recommended for election to the Region 5 Board by the Chair and Vice Chair, and agree to accept the recommendation or propose the election of a different slate of candidates.   

 

BACKGROUND:  At the June 15, 2009 meeting, the Board adopted a resolution in support of the nomination of Judi Lehman for the position of ACWA Region 5 board member.  The MPWMD Board Chair and Vice Chair have recommended that the Board cast a vote in favor of Director Lehman’s appointment to the ACWA Region 5 board.

 

IMPACT TO STAFF/RESOURCES:  If a Director is elected to the ACWA Region 5 Board of Directors, there should be sufficient funds to pay for costs associated with Region 5 activities. For Fiscal Year 2009-2010, $4,800 was budgeted for eight directors to attend unspecified conferences such as the ACWA Spring or Fall conference.  In addition, $6,800 was budgeted for travel, lodging and meals associated with attendance at conferences. If necessary, the budget could be increased at mid-year.
