SUMMARY:  A 20-foot, metal storage container is needed at the Sleepy Hollow Steelhead Rearing Facility (SHSRF)).  The container will be used to store large fisheries gear and equipment, such as a portable sand dredge that is now stored in the District’s workshop in Carmel Valley Village, a boat motor, and an all terrain vehicle (ATV) that staff is planning to purchase in Fiscal Year 2007.  Currently, there is no space available to store this type of gear at the SHSRF in a weather-tight condition.    Purchase of the storage container was approved as part of the District’s Fiscal Year 2007 Budget under Sleepy Hollow Facility Operations.

RECOMMENDATION:  Staff recommends that the District Board authorize expenditure of budgeted funds in a not-to-exceed amount of $2,800 for the purchase, shipping, tax, and installation of a storage container from Container Outlet in Oakland, California.  Staff contacted five companies that sell used, reconditioned, shipping containers, and Container Outlet can provide the container to the SHSRF at the lowest price.  The Administrative Committee reviewed this item at its April 9, 2007 meeting and voted 2 to 0 to recommend approval.

IMPACT TO STAFF/RESOURCES:  The Fiscal Year 2007 Budget includes $2,500 for the purchase of a storage container for the SHSRF.  The actual cost of the container, including delivery from Oakland, and sales tax is $2,700.  This price is approximately $200 more than the amount of money budgeted for this item in the project account shown above.  This increase is because of a higher delivery charge due to higher fuel prices.  In addition to this cost, approximately $100 will be needed to prepare the site for installation of the container.  Installation of the container will also require a small amount of fisheries staff time.  The additional money needed for purchase, delivery, and installation of the storage container, i.e., $300, is available from the Sleepy Hollow General operations and maintenance item in the Fiscal Year 2006-07 Budget (Item 2-3-1 A).
