This is the CARMEL RIVER EROSION POTENTIAL REPORT for

 

Friday, March 25, 2011.

 

Flow at the USGS gage at Rosie’s Bridge on Esquiline Road was 2,790 cubic feet per second (cfs) at a gage height of 5.97 feet at 7:15 a.m. and was falling after reaching a peak of just over 5,000 cfs late Wednesday night..

 

Flow at the Near Carmel gage at Via Mallorca Road was 5,300 cfs at a gage height of 12.37 feet at 7:00 a.m. and was falling after reaching a peak of 7,200 cfs at 3:14 this morning.

 

The National Weather Service forecast is for periods of showers through Saturday.

 

The current National Weather Service forecast of flow at Rosie’s Bridge is that the river will continue to fall over the next few days.  Streambanks are saturated and may be prone to erosion as the river drops.  If you need to report an erosion problem, please call 659-2543.  This is the Water Management District's Carmel Valley office phone. Sand bags are available at the mid-Valley fire station.

Recreational boaters are advised that there are many low lying branches and obstacles in the river in addition to some areas with deep, swift currents.
