Lawn Removal and Replacement Rebate Program

 

Rebate Amounts:

            Lawn Removal and Replacement: $1.25/sq. ft.* up to 5,000 sq. ft.

                *Rebate amount cannot exceed the cost of materials and labor. Receipts must be provided.

 

Qualifications:

ü      Must submit a completed Lawn Removal and Replacement Application.

ü      Obtain and include water records for a minimum of the two most recent years demonstrating regular cyclical water use indicative of seasonal Landscape irrigation.

ü      Have a minimum of 250 square-feet of Lawn to be removed.

ü      Eligible Lawns must be green, regularly maintained at a low even height, irrigated regularly, and well taken care of. Dead Lawns or Lawns already removed at the time of the complete application are not eligible for Rebate.

ü      Replace Lawn with low-water use plants, drought tolerant plants or permeable surfaces (mulch, decomposed granite, Synthetic Turf, etc.). Concrete or grouted pavers do not qualify. If installing Synthetic Turf you must apply separately for that additional Rebate.

ü      Lawn must not be relocated to a different area of the site.

ü      If converted area is irrigated, a drip Irrigation System must be installed. Overhead irrigation is not permitted.

ü      Planted areas must have at least a three-inch layer of mulch-no bare soil surfaces permitted.

ü      Agree to and sign a deed restriction, which will be recorded on the property title, to not reinstall Lawn anywhere on the Site within a period of 15 years or the Rebate and additional associated costs must be repaid to the District.

ü      Must be in compliance with District Rules and Regulations and/or conditions attached to District Water Permits.

 

Steps to Apply:

1.      Obtain and include with your application, at minimum, the two most recent years of water records from your water company.

2.      Carefully measure and draw a diagram, including square footages, of the Lawn areas on your Site (include areas of Turf that will remain on site and label accordingly).

3.      Take 2-3 photos of all sections of the yard and include a copy with your application.

4.      Include a diagram and description of what plants and/or permeable surfaces the Lawn will be replaced with and irrigation plan if applicable (If irrigated, a drip system must be installed).

5.      Attach these items to a completed Lawn Rebate and Removal Application and submit to: Rebate Program, Post Office Box 85, Monterey, CA 93940.

6.      Once eligibility has been determined, the District will contact you to schedule a pre-inspection.

7.      Complete the project within 120 days of eligibility date, submitting copies of all receipts and arrange for a final inspection.

 

8.      Sign the deed restriction once it is prepared by the District and return for recording within 14 days.

9.      Once steps are complete, the Rebate will be approved for payment.
