SUMMARY:  The Water Awareness Committee of Monterey County (WAC) is organizing a large Water Awareness Month (May) kick off event on May 1, 2010 at Del Monte Center in Monterey.  The event will showcase water efficiency including displays, booths, entertainment, demonstrations and other activities to educate the community about water conservation.  The District has been asked to be an event sponsor.  A complete summary of the event and levels of sponsorship is attached as Exhibit 2-A and Exhibit 2-B.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  The Administrative Committee should consider a recommendation to the Board supporting the District’s sponsorship at the $5,000 level.  The Public Outreach Committee supported sponsoring Water Awareness Day at this level.  Funding is in the Fiscal Year 2009-2010 budget.  Sponsorship of a local water conservation event of this magnitude will give the District an opportunity to educate the public about its mission and vision.
