SUMMARY:    On November 5, 2013, an election is scheduled for directors in voter divisions 1 and 2.   The Monterey County Elections Department requires that a resolution calling for the November 5 election be adopted by the Board of Directors no later than July 3, 2013.

The Elections Department has estimated that the approximate cost to conduct the election will be between $78,412 and $87,125, depending on the number of entities that consolidate ballot measures for the November 5 election date.  The Board will be asked to authorize funding for the election at the July 15, 2013 meeting.

RECOMMENDATION:    The Board of Directors adopt the resolution attached as Exhibit 12-A, calling for an election in voter divisions 1 and 2 on November 5, 2013.

BACKGROUND:   A special, mail-ballot election was conducted in voter division 1 in May  2011.  The last regularly scheduled election in divisions 1 and 2 was conducted in November 2009.

IMPACT ON STAFF/RESOURCES:  An amount necessary to cover the cost of this District election will be included in the Fiscal Year 2013-14 budget, which is scheduled to be adopted on June 17, 2013.
