SUMMARY:  Staff is requesting authorization to expend budgeted funds for two local Graywater Laundry to Landscape workshops by Ecology Action.  One planned workshop is a “mini” workshop at Water Awareness Day at Del Monte Center (May 1, 2011), and the other is a a full-length workshop in June.  The training is identical to the well-received 2010 Laundry to Landscape training held at the Carmel High School and at Odemeyer Center in Seaside.  During Water Awareness Day at Del Monte Center, Ecology Action will present a mini-workshop showcasing the Laundry to Landscape system to attendees and will invite them to sign up for the full length class offered in June.

MPWMD will be partnering with the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District (MPRPD) to sponsor and promote the full-length class.  The class cost is approximately $1,200, including instructor time and supplies.  The class description and registration information will appear in the Spring/Summer issue of the MPRPD’s Lets Go Outdoors catalog.  The class will be free of charge to the public and will have room for up to 30 participants.

RECOMMENDATION:  Staff recommends the Administrative Committee recommend approval of District sponsorship and participation in two local Graywater Laundry to Landscape workshops by Ecology Action at a not-to-exceed cost of $2,000.

IMPACT TO STAFF/RESOURCES:  Funding for Graywater training is reimburseable through California American Water in the conservation budget approved by the California Public Utilities Commission in 2009.
