SUMMARY:

October 2009

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for October was 1,092 acre-feet (AF), 19 percent less than the anticipated production of 1,341 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 27-A).

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for Water Year (WY) 2010, through October 31, 2009 has been 1,092 AF.

Groundwater Production:  During October, no water was produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley, equivalent to the zero AF of production was anticipated.  Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) well production was 803 AF, seven percent less than the anticipated production of 864 AF.  In October, 250 AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, 44 percent less than the anticipated production of 450 AF.  Well production from the Laguna Seca subarea of the Seaside Basin which includes Hidden Hills, Bishop and Ryan Ranch water systems, was 39 AF, 44 percent more than the 27 AF that was anticipated.

Surface Water Production:  In October, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2010 has been zero AF.  Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during October was 81 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

The anticipated river flow, storage and production values were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 27-A for additional information regarding CAW production in October 2009.
