SUMMARY:  The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) has been asked to contribute to the financial support of the Water for Monterey County Coalition (WFMCC) meetings during the August through October 2009 period.  Continuation of the WFMCC work past July 2009 will be jointly funded by MPWMD, Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA), Marina Coast Water District (MCWD), and California American Water (CAW).  As described in Exhibit 8-A, MPWMD’s share for three additional WFMCC meetings during the August through October 2009 period will be $3,500, or 16.7% of the total contract amount.  The proposed contract will be between MPWMD and RMC Water and Environment (RMC), who will execute a sub-agreement with Steve Kasower and Greg Peping for management of the WFMCC effort.  As described in the Scope of Services in Exhibit 8-A, Dr. Kasower will facilitate monthly WFMCC meetings, including preparation of meeting agendas and notes.  Providing financial support for the WFMCC meetings with MRWPCA, MCWD and CAW is consistent with the Board’s direction that MPWMD be included in the regional water supply planning process. 

 

RECOMMENDATION:  Staff recommends that the Board authorize the General Manager to contract with RMC for a not-to-exceed amount of $3,500 to fund three WFMCC meetings during the August through October 2009 period, as described above.

 

IMPACT TO DISTRICT RESOURCES:  Funds to support continued WFMCC meetings are not included in the District’s Fiscal Year 2010 budget.  The $3,500 contribution will be taken from the District’s Contingency Reserve.
