RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE
MONTEREY PENINSULA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT
OPPOSing Draft cease and desist order wr

WHEREAS, the
Monterey Peninsula Water Management District is charged with providing
integrated management of the water resources in the Monterey Peninsula area,
and is also charged with protecting the public welfare, health, safety and environment
in the Monterey Peninsula area;
WHEREAS, the Monterey
Peninsula Water Management District has the most comprehensive data and
understanding regarding present and proposed water use, and their effects on
the environment; and
WHEREAS, the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District’s
programs successfully minimize water use (conservation), and minimize adverse
environmental consequences of water use (streamflow, riparian vegetation, and
fisheries management);
and
WHEREAS, the proposed amounts and timetable for reductions in existing
water use in the draft Cease and Desist
Order are unrealistic, and may jeopardize public health and safety; and
WHEREAS, the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District has worked
diligently to develop new water supply projects, including recycled water,
seawater desalination, and aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the Monterey
Peninsula Water Management District that we OPPOSE State Water Resources
Control Board Cease and Desist Order WR
2008-00XX-DWR against California American Water, as drafted.
