MINUTES

Team Safety Meeting

December 13, 2007

 

 

-  The meeting was called to order at 9:40 am in the Library -

           

                        MEMBERS PRESENT:                        Michael Boles, Rick Dickhaut, Cory Hamilton, Matt Lyons, Cynthia Schmidlin

 

                        MEMBERS ABSENT:                          None

                       

I.          TOPICS OF DISCUSSION 

           

                OLD BUSINESS    

 

A.     Status on 2nd Floor Storage Room Housekeeping Issues: A memo was sent from Team Safety to Dave Berger outlining the long outstanding hazard issues surrounding Planning and Engineering materials stored on the floor and on top of file cabinets.  The issue has been noted for several years and not resolved as a result of Team Safety recommendations and requests.  Therefore, it was presented it to the General Manager for resolution, as he sees fit. 

 

B.     Earthquake Safety Measures:  The bookcases and file cabinets in the Water Demand Division office area and Administrative Services offices on the 2nd floor of 5 Harris Court were secured by bolting to the floor, each other, and/or the wall.

                                                                                                                             

NEW BUSINESS

 

A.     Introduction and Welcome to New Team Member: Team Safety welcomed new member, from the Water Resources Division, Cory Hamilton.  Cory, an Assistant Fisheries Biologist, has been a District employee for over 5 years and brings his perspective from work at the Sleepy Hollow Fish Rearing facility and Carmel River to safety issues. 

 

B.     Review of Safety Training in 2007:  Team Safety reviewed the safety training that took place during the past year.  This included the monthly presentations at Staff Meetings, periodic OSHA-mandated training, and District recommended CPR/First Aid training.

 

C.     Upcoming Training:  Team Safety Discussed prospective training over the next six months, which will include the following:

 

1)      Fire Extinguishers

2)      Winter Safety

3)      CPR/First Aid Training

4)      Defensive Driving for Government Employees

5)      Customer Service Safety

6)      Confined Spaces Training

7)      Respirator/Pesticide Training and Fit Testing

 

D.      IIPP Update:  It is time to review the District’s Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Cynthia asked Team members to review their copy for discussion of possible changes and additions.   Suggestions will be reviewed at one of the next Team Safety Meetings. 

 

 

II.    NEXT TEAM SAFETY MEETING

 

The next Team Safety Meeting will be tentatively held on January 11, 2007 at 9:30 am.
