SUMMARY:

May 2007

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for May was 1,312 acre-feet (AF), five percent less than the anticipated goal of 1,388 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 31-A). The 1,312 AF of production in May represents an 18 percent savings from Cal-Am's base year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,603 AF.

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for the 2007 Water Year (WY), through May 31, 2007 has been 8,451 AF.  It should be noted that during February and March, 12 AF were diverted from Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) wells for the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Program in the Seaside Basin.  Although this quantity is included in the 8,451 AF year-to-date production, it was not produced for customer service.

Ground Water Production:  During May, 28 AF were produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley.  This production was ten percent less than the anticipated production of 31 AF.  Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) well production was 817 AF, five percent less than the anticipated production of 857 AF.  In May, 467 AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, seven percent less than the 500 AF of production that was anticipated.

Surface Water Production:  In May, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2007 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during May was 10 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

The anticipated river flow, storage values and production goals were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with NOAA Fisheries.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 31-A for additional information regarding CAW production in May 2007.
