SUMMARY:  Director Alvin Edwards requested that this legislative proposal be brought to the Board’s attention for informational purposes, only.   

 

RECOMMENDATION:  No action is requested by Director Edwards or recommended by staff. 

 

BACKGROUND:  State Senator Abel Maldonado, 15th District, introduced SB 1630 on February 24, 2006.  According to Legislative Counsel, this bill proposes to amend state law to give a water district, public utility district or city providing water service in Monterey County the “right of first refusal” in any sale, lease or other transaction involving a private water company that requires prior approval of the California Public Utilities Commission.  The text of SB 1630, plus its legislative history and bill status reported on the State’s official legislative information website as of April 10, 2006, is attached as Exhibit 11-A.
