SUMMARY:   On March 14, 2003, General Manager Ernesto A. Avila submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors.  Effective, March 18, 2003, Fran Farina was appointed Acting General Manager for a period of approximately six months.

 

At the May 19, 2003 meeting, the Board voted to contract with Shannon Executive Research (Shannon) to conduct the recruitment of a new General Manager. On August 18, 2003, the Board approved a recruitment strategy for the position with a proposed recruitment schedule and the enclosed draft brochure (Exhibit 14-A) and draft advertisement  (Exhibit 14-B).  However, at the September 15, 2003 meeting, recruitment was suspended until the December 2003 seating of new Board members.  At that time, the Board approved a new contract with Ms. Farina as General Manager, commencing September 16, 2003 and expiring June 30, 2004.

 

Kris Kristensen, Executive Recruiter for Shannon, will be meeting with the new Board members and receiving their input on the General Manager recruitment prior to the December 15, 2003 Board meeting.  At that meeting, Mr. Kristensen will present his updated schedule (Exhibit 14-C) and updated drafts of the brochure and advertisement. The new brochure and advertisement will be submitted at the Board meeting.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  Receive the report from Kris Kristensen and consider approval of the updated schedule, brochure and advertisement for the General Manager recruitment. The Administrative Committee reviewed this item at its December 9, 2003 meeting and voted 2 to 0 to recommend approval of the revised schedule.  Public comment will be received.
