2.         CONSIDER ADOPTION OF POLICY REGARDING DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS PROPERTY

SUMMARY:  The District currently has four vehicles and various furniture and equipment that is no longer required and needs to be disposed of.  A draft Policy Regarding Disposal of Surplus Property is included as Exhibit 2-A for consideration by the Board of Directors.  Property with value would be either traded in or auctioned by the District, another government agency or a private auction house.  Property with no value would be disposed of at a landfill or donated to a non-profit agency.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  The Administrative Committee reviewed the draft policy at its July 15, 2003 meeting and voted 3 to 0 to recommend approval.  If approved, this item will be adopted along with the Consent Calendar.

 

BACKGROUND: In the past the District has used various methods for disposing of surplus property including District held auctions, City of Monterey auctions and newspaper advertising.  The District currently has four vehicles and various furniture and equipment that is no longer required and needs to be disposed of.  District staff has prepared a Policy Regarding Disposal of Surplus Property for consideration by the Board of Directors.
